17 Day Diet mindset

The 17 Day Diet mindset is one filled with positivity, energy and focus.  So how do you get that?

Ever play that old video game snake? Hear me out…

The 17 Day Diet mindsetIt’s the one where you control a snake around your screen and make it eat dots or “eggs” without running into a wall.

The game gets harder the longer you play because each time the snake eats an “egg” it gets a little longer. Eventually, the snake is so long, it wraps in on itself, crashes, and dies. Game over.

So, why am I talking about video games? Is it because I’m thinking of taking up a new career?

It’s because I think this game is the perfect metaphor for bad habits when it comes to our health. You see, just like “snake”, the longer you play games with your health, the longer the snake gets until the game is impossible to win.

Just like in the game, in real life, that snake keeps getting longer the more you play.

And eventually, it crashes.

One area where I see nearly everyone “playing the snake game” with their health is sleep.

We’ve all done it. We think “damn, I didn’t get much sleep last night. Hopefully, I’ll be able to sleep in on Saturday…” DING – the snake just got longer…

The reality is, you can’t “catch up” on sleep. It’s not the way it works. In real life, you never “win” this particular game of snake.

And the longer that snake gets, the more it impacts every area of your life.

The only way to get back on track, and shorten the snake is to develop good habits around sleep and treat yourself right consistently.

As you know, consistency is my favorite word.

But it’s a double-edged sword… Do the right things consistently, and you’ll get amazing results… but if you sacrifice your health consistently, with poor diet, or poor sleep, you can end up in a very bad place.

Let me ask you an easy question:

Do you feel better after a few days of all-nighters with little to no sleep, or after a great night’s rest?

See. I told you it was easy.

The question is why…

How do we achieve The 17 Day Diet mindset  and why does our mood, our mind and body suffer so much without sleep?

The short version is that sleep is our body’s “reset system”. The whole point of sleep is to let your body wash away all the grime and junk that builds up inside our internal machinery throughout the day.

In the medical field, we give this grime names like “free-radicals”, and “oxidative stress”.

So when your body goes extended periods without the right amount of sleep, we feel the effects in our brains and in our joints pretty quickly. These are both areas prone to high levels of oxidative stress.

So, what if I told you that it’s probably been YEARS since you consistently got enough sleep?

What do you think that does to your daily mood?

The truth is, many people have been living under the cloud of poor quality sleep for so long, we’ve all just sort of gotten used to the constant feeling of grogginess and agitation.

We self-medicate with things like caffeine and fattening foods to provide a quick shot of brain chemicals that can make us feel better temporarily.

Don’t worry. This blog post isn’t just doom and gloom.

I want to give you a couple of actionable tips you can use to fix this problem starting TODAY.
